Sölderholz is a neighbourhood in the south-east of the city of Dortmund. Sölderholz only became a city district in the last century. Its name derives from ‚Sölder Holz‘, woodland that is now part of the neighbouring district of Sölde. To the south, Sölderholz borders Lichtendorf, also part of administrative district 45. It also borders Aplerbeck and Aplerbecker Mark to the west, Sölde to the north and Holzwickede to the east. Apart from where it borders Lichtendorf, there is no continuous building development linking Sölderholz and adjoining areas. The Emscher river originates in woodland between Sölderholz and Holzwickede. Building development in Sölderholz is primarily characterised by detached houses and terrace houses. Further building development is at the planning stage. Sölderholz is close to woodland and is one of Dortmund’s most sought-after residential areas. Rates of unemployment here are low and residents enjoy above-average income. The railway line between Hagen and Hamm runs to the north-west of Söderholz.
