This extremely charming loft apartment with a small gallery level is located in a city villa, built in the 1930s, and which is a listed building. It was designed by Paul Portten, who designed the Grugaturm tower, and combines stylistic elements of the ‘New Architecture’ and the garden city concept with Bauhaus elements. In recent years, the building has undergone thorough refurbishment, and is now as good as new. At the maisonette’s highest point, the ceilings are around 5 metres high. In terms of furnishings, the apartment predominantly features design classics.
The rent already includes running and heating costs, as well as electricity costs and weekly basic cleaning of the apartment. On request, a parking space in a nearby underground car park can also be rented.
An energy certificate is not required.
Oiled oak parquet flooring throughout the entire apartment, including the bathroom. Solid wooden window frames, some of which go down to floor level. Wood-burning stove connected to a 5m-high free-standing chimney, which is clad in marble-coloured venetian tile. Custom-made, fully equipped kitchen, including a full inventory of tableware etc for up to eight guests. Corian worktops. Bathroom featuring free-standing bath, also of Corian. Washbasin, floor-level glass shower cubicle, WC and bidet. Full set of towels for two people, and enough for regular changing. Bathrobes for two. Guest WC. Washer-dryer, ironing board and iron. Sleeping area with bed (1.60m wide), custom-made wardrobe plus chest of drawers and shelving. Living area with large ‘Edra Flap’ designer sofa by Francesco Binfaré, Artemide Tolomeo lighting, Samsung smart TV (with internet and DVB-T2; technical requirements for connecting your own entertainment system, for example, are in place) and Samsung sound system, including wi-fi and Bluetooth. Extendable dining table for four to eight people, with Vitra chairs. Historical illuminated advertising sign for the Paris jeweller Murat, on the Arc de Triomphe.
On the compact gallery level you will find a small Scandinavian mid-century desk with a working vintage iMac, an additional bed and two Fatboy beanbags. This offers you enough space to stow away your suitcases or boxes out of sight, for example.
Südviertel
The Südviertel lies directly to the south of the city centre, and is where Essen’s office complexes are situated, as well as being its cultural hub. Furthermore, it is also a popular residential area. Of particular cultural and architectural interest is the Aalto theatre, which houses the Essen Opera. Further south, you will find the Ruhrland museum and the Folkwang museum. The eastern area of the district is a particularly sought-after residential area. The A40 and A52 can be reached in just a few minutes. Parts of the city centre are easily reached on foot, and several tram routes take you to other areas of the city.
