Marl lies at the northern edge of the Ruhr Valley. The town is culturally significant, with the Philharmonica Hungarica symphony orchestra and the Adolf-Grimme-Institute, which awards Germany’s most important television awards, being nationally – perhaps even internationally – renowned.
However, Marl is characterised by the presence of the industrial chemistry and plastics processing industries.
